I had the New York visit! It was certainly one of my top 5 traveling experiences so far, and was well worth the prepping from a photographic perspective. I’ll split the specifics (night photography, flash, wide angle) into follow-ups, but here are some quick impressions:
The good
- For a European New York is quite alien, therefore full of interesting subjects to feed an amateur photographer
- Could put my gear into full utilization thanks to the broadest variety in circumstances (light, weather, distance & scale)
- Could improve (well… had the opportunity to practice) some wide-angle skills
The bad
- Had tremendous time crunch to fit in as much as possible, had no time to really think about framing, light, etc. Probably never before had such low rate of keepers, and it was actually planned that way
- This was the first time I had 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) gear permanently attached (plus the additional stuff in the backpack) and though far from back breaking I certainly felt it
