Partially as prep-work, partially as part of my general visual education, I read the book on Architectural Photography by Adrian Schulz. I’m not sufficiently skilled to make a judgement call on its quality, but for me it was certainly useful. Key takeaways:
- Avoid converging verticals like the pest, orientation is absolutely key
- Perspective is where it all starts, one-three times the height of the building is a good distance, one vs. two-point perspective, vanishing points
- Tight framing = creative opportunities
- Wide angle is your best friend, large apertures are not
- Clinical vs dynamic framing
- What to do with the sky and clouds
- Even the pros rely heavily on post-processing
Next up I’ll have to do a photo walk in Budapest and put some of that into practice before the real game.
